Sony officially announced that its talking to Toshiba to acquire its CMOS image sensor business. The company is aiming at Toshiba’s fabrication facilities, equipment and 1,100 employees currently working on CMOS image sensor engineering and design.
Hope for the best! If the deal goes through, the Korean company will have Toshiba’s plant in Oita, Japan. Further, this acquisition will put Sony to increase its CMOS image sensor production muscles. Sony is looking for further market growth in this area.
As per reports, the CMOS sensors of the Korean giant are found in Apple, Samsung, Google, Motorola and with a plathora of Chinese manufacturer smartphones. Also, there are companies like Nokia who are utilizing Sony’s sensors in the high-end digital cameras.
