CEO says market share for Microsoft is unsustainable

In an interview, the CEO of Microsoft Satya Nadella has said that the current smartphone market share for their company is unsustainable. However, he said that their overall aim is to create a world where services are more important than the device.

According to him, if a company measures its success by just looking at the market share they are doing an injustice with themselves.

“I think we do ourselves a disservice if we measure our success by just looking at: What’s the market share of HoloLens? What’s the market share of Xbox? What’s the market share of PCs? What’s the market share of our phones?”

“If you think of this more like a graph, these [devices] are all nodes. Sometimes the user will use all of these devices … sometimes they’ll use only one or two of our devices and some other platforms — so be it. But we want to make sure that we are completing the experience across all of these devices.”

Windows Phone

According to the latest report from Gartner, a renowned market research company, the Window Phone market share of 1.7% down nearly 50% in comparison to the Q3 2014. Microsoft also experienced a drop of sale in October this year. Some other important topics were also covered by Nadella in his interview, if you want to access the complete report just click here.
