Sony Xperia X Compact: Expert Review

Sony Xperia X Compact is the latest mini mobile of the Japanese manufacturer, which comes with a 4.6 inch display. This smartphone can be handled single handed, which makes it a wonderful craftsmanship. It is a perfect device to stack up against the rival mini phones like Apple’s iPhone SE and Sony’s own Xperia Z5 Compact from last year.

The manufacturer has tried to make it a real powerful device by providing it with some great features that are also available with the Xperia X Plus phone. It has been provided with a 23 MP rear snapper, which manages to click beautiful pictures.

Design and Looks:

Sony’s Xperia X Compact sports a 4.6 inch display, which makes it quite a compact phone. It makes for a good option for all those users who constantly watch movies and shows on the go or like to play mobile games. However, mini mobiles are not that much popular these days as people are spending more money on large screen phones but if an option like iPhone SE comes to the market people will surely accept it.

The Japanese giant is somewhat dependent on releasing a dinky handset every year and this year it’s the new Xperia X Compact. Just like the Xperia Z5 Compact from last year, this is a squished version of the existing Sony mobile, the Xperia X. However, this smartphone might have lost some height and width in the shrinking process but it is fat enough to make a bit of room for its powerful battery and other internals.

This smartphone weighs 135 grams, which makes it one of the lighter phones from the handset maker. But it does not make it look like a toy phone despite of its plastic frame. However, while this phone is rugged enough to show off its bumps and knocks, the surface is resistant to scratches.

It has not been made water resistant by the manufacturer, like the Xperia Z5 Compact phone. The sources claim that Sony slashed this feature as it was never a priority for its fans, which makes sense though. But we are sure that the new Xperia X Compact will survive a serious splashing in a downpour. E suggest if you want to buy a phone which can be carried along into the bath or can be used to click your pictures in the pool then you should look for last year’s model, Xperia Z5 Compact.

Screen and Media:

Sony has provided its new Xperia X Compact phone with a 4.6 inch Full HD display with 1080 x 720 pixels resolution.  The display also gets Sony’s X reality software engine and high definition video looks. There is no motion blur or other ill effects which give sharp and attractive images. Also, if you prefer vibrant and punchy colors you can turn on the Super Vivid mode to bring life to your photographs and videos.

Another highlight of this handset is its audio. Just like the Xperia X, this smartphone also supports Hi-resolution audio and is capable to upscale compressed tracks to boost their quality. You will surely enjoy listening to music using this phone once you plug in your headphones. There is an internal storage capacity of 32GB, which can further be boosted with the help of microSD card slot. This gives you plenty of space for carrying around a massive media collection. There is 3GB RAM which provide faster processing speed.

Features and Software:

You will not find any difference between the user experience on Sony Xperia X Compact and the standard Xperia X phone, and Xperia XZ. It runs on the Android Marshmallow operating system with Sony’s unified design theme on top. This adds vibrant splashes of color and a few bonus features to this handset. For example, you get an interactive guide on how to use this smartphone, built into the setting menu. Sony has provided with some nifty shortcuts which will help you in opening the camera app and checking notifications.

Powerful Performance:

This smartphone is powered by Snapdragon 650 processor, which delivers smooth everyday performance at a comparatively low price. This handset is no faster than previous year’s model but lags behind Apple’s mini handset, iPhone SE. You will still be able to zip around Android without seeing a shutter while the apps load up as soon icons poke. Sony Xperia X Compact is one of the best options for the gamers, who can now play action packed titles with a pleasing smooth frame rate.  The performance of this phone will not be degraded in a year or two.

As we know, Sony’s Compact phone boasts an impressive battery life and the new Xperia X Compact is no exception. This handset embraces Type C USB. Its reversible charging technology makes it quite easy to stab your cable in when it is late night and you are knackered.

This phone can be said as a step up from its bigger brother in terms of camera. The 23MP camera on the back of this smartphone is provided with low light capabilities, which enable clicking quality pictures even in dim light conditions. There is an autofocus and improved image stabilization. You can now easily record Full HD footage in either 30 or 60 frames per second, complete with some seriously good Steady Shot image stabilization. There is a 5Mp selfie camera as well to shoot sharp and attractive selfie images.

Sony Xperia X Compact is not an evolution over the last year’s Xperia Z5 Compact phone, but offers almost similar features. It has been provided with a powerful processor and good battery life while the water resistance and 4K video recording are kept away. Also, as this phone is price same so the present owners need not to upgrade.
