Samsung Galaxy S4 GPE receives Android 5.1

The Google Play Editions which used to pair the flagship smartphones from Android device manufacturers with the stock android from Google. These phones with stock android have now discontinued by Google as they turned out not to be very enticing option for many. As a latest report, Samsung’s Galaxy S4 Google Play Edition was released just before these were discontinued. This model is just similar to the original Galaxy S4 phone, with regular software.

This GPE of S4 is now receiving an update for Android 5.1 firmware with build LMY470. As per reports, this particular version was first spotted on other devices back in April and it’s unclear why it took so much time to reach the Galaxy S4 Google Play Edition.

S4 GPE installOnce you apply this software update you will no longer be stuck to the ancient Android 5.0 build LRX21P from November 2014. However, we would not like to comment on this phone getting a Marshmallow update. Or if we believe that it will get the Android Marshmallow sometime then don’t expect this to happen before 2016.
